The study aims to reveal the degree of consultation and collaboration within a multi-disciplinary team in primary schools that include learning difficulties programs in Jeddah. The researcher used the descriptive method. A questionnaire consisting of two parts was applied: the first part includes teamwork members’ personal and professional information, and the second part includes (21) items about teamwork practices of consultation, (17) items about teamwork practices of collaboration and (18) items about constraints of the practices of consultation and collaboration. The study sample consisted of (40) school leaders, (41) student counselors, (50) learning difficulties teachers, (74) general education teachers, and (102) parents. The findings reveal that the highest degree of consultation is from the student counselors’ point of view while collaboration is from the school leaders’ point of view. The lowest degree of consultation and collaboration is from the learning difficulties teachers’ point of view. The results also show that there are significant differences between (learning difficulties teachers and parents) and the other sample categories regarding consultation practices in favor of other sample categories. They also show that there are significant differences between learning difficulties teachers and the other sample categories regarding collaboration practices in favor of other sample categories. Additionally, there are significant differences between parents and (school leaders, student counselors, general education teachers) regarding collaboration practices in favor (school leaders, student counselors, general education teachers). These findings reflect the main constraint to the practices of consultation and collaboration, which is the increase of the psychological pressure on the teamwork members, and the scarcity of training programs for consultation and collaboration practices. The study recommends professional development program and administrative support to activate best practices in consultation and collaboration. |
