Abstract : This study addresses a number of general characteristics of the rain falling on the west of Saudi Arabia. It is known that the study area is characterized by the diversity of features and terrain ranging from coastal plains and valleys of the Interior, and the high plains and towering mountain peaks, ranging from increases in the region between the sea level and about three thousand meters. The objectives of the study to identify spatial and temporal characteristics, and changes experienced by rain and the prospects Htoulha, in an attempt to determine the role played by Altdarisi diversity and breadth of the study area. The properties studied included the spatial and temporal distributions of rain, also addressed the changes and fluctuations of the annual, monthly, and the prospects for rainfall and deviations from the annual rates, in addition to the general trend of rainfall during the study period. The study used monthly records for seventy-two (72) station to measure rainfall spread within the different agencies area of study. The importance of this study was that it covers a longer time period to compare the studies that preceded it in this region, in addition to the substantive framework has expanded to include the changes in the component of rainfall in the past few decades, which represents the study period. The results showed significant variations in annual rainfall in the study area, where the annual rates ranged between 18 to 518 mm. For monthly rainfall, the study showed there were clear differences between stations. There are stations recorded heavy in all months, while the other stations recorded rainfall in some months only. In terms of quarterly, has emerged as the most seasons of winter rain in twenty six (26) station, followed by the spring in the twenty-two (22) station, and fall in fifteen (15) station, and in summer for ten stations. The study shows changes in rainfall fluctuated considerably in the rainy region of study. The coefficient of variation exceeded 60% in fifty-two stations of the study, and there are six (6) stations than variation of annual rainfall 100%. The results also show a pattern of bands with respect to the prospects for rain in the study area. In addition, the analysis showed that deviations from the annual rates of rainfall falling on the majority of the stations of the study, do not follow any specific pattern with nearly the number of years of annual rainfall exceeded the overall rate with years in which rainfall was below average. There are five (5) stations set up exceptions in the terms of the number of years that the below-average number of years of above-average. Finally, the results showed that the general trend of rain falling on the area of study - with the exception of only two - have been a decreasing trend during the period represented by the data.
