Abstract
:
Effective moment of inertia of an RC beam is shown to be function of the service load-level. The beam is subjected to, the reinforcement ratio in the beam and the type of loading (uniform or point loads). The well known formulas available for evaluation of effective moment of inertia considered the effect of uniformly distributed load only. The test results show that the effective moment of inertia under point loads is significantly different from that obtained from the formulas. Refined models are presented here, which account for the effects of all the loading types and are compared with the test results and with other models available for this purpose. Applicability of the models as well as other models to beams of T-sections is also investigated.
