Abstract
:
This study investigates the level of compatibility between bureaucratic and social values in the United Arab Emirates( UAE). For this purpose the opinions of federal government employees who were taking part in variety of training programs carried out by the UAE Institute of Administrative Development in the year 2006 were surveyed via a questionnaire schedule which was previously used by similar study in the Jordanian context. Minor modification were made and introduced to the instrument so as to adapt it to the UAE’s setting. Seven research hypotheses were developed and tested. Statistical techniques such as mean averages, percentages, stander Deviation, One Way-Analysis of Variance and Two Sample t Test were utilized to test research hypotheses. A medium level of compatibility between bureaucratic and social values was provided via the empirical findings of this study. No significant variation in respondents’ estimates of compatibility between the values under examination according to level of education, seniority, age, gender and rank in organization was indicated. Only the administrative level of respondent’s job has been a significant factor affecting estimates of compatibility between social and bureaucratic values. Interpretation and implications for future trends of bureaucratic behavior in the UAE government apparatus of the findings of this study were explicated.
