Abstract
:
We have been in this study using two different methods to extract the natural drainage network, as well as the border to Wadi Nu'man located between the cities of Mecca and Taif, near the holy sites. The first method was direct manual extraction of topographic maps by tracking the values of heights on the contour lines and draw the limits of the valley manually so throw on the mountain peaks and the valley between Naaman and neighboring valleys. The method is the traditional method commonly used. The other way was by auto-extraction programs installed on the PC. Has completed the task in this way transferred to topographic maps and digital maps were produced form high numbers of the area by the GIS and then hired a program management system to derive watershed boundaries and drainage network of watercourses. The comparison between the two methods proved that the automatic extraction is similar in its results for the manual extraction, but the advantage of being faster and less prone to errors as a result of the human factor as well as less expensive in the case of availability of digital elevation models of the area studied. The study recommends that the current interest in the production of digital elevation models to more areas in the Kingdom due to its importance for many scientific applications
